West Lanham Hills Community Fair

June 14th, 2003

by Tongil Moran

This weekend we helped out with a neighborhood fair put on by the West Lanham Hills Community Center.  We joined two other groups of older youths and assisted kids with their games and activities.  At first it was a little tough; the kids were getting wild and there were so many that we couldn't really control them.  After a while they started to calm down and listen a lot more.

The day was similar to my experiences last summer, when I worked with youth groups from different churches.  I love working with kids, and I could feel a real community spirit there.   Nobody, including the little kids, was fighting or being mean to others.  This made our job a lot easier.  There was a huge BBQ during the fair, so we could eat as much food as we wanted, which was a big plus.  I had a really good experience doing the project and really loved working with younger kids and helping them out as much as I could.
