SFP Announces Martin Luther King Day Sub-Grantees
December 13, 2010Service For Peace has announced next year’s MLK Day sub-grantees to receive funds for organizing projects on MLK Day this January, as well as throughout the Martin Luther King Jr. Season of Service.
Service For Peace has been a lead agency with the Corporation for National & Community Service for Martin Luther King Day of Service for 6 years. Service For Peace is one of the seven national organizations that were awarded the grant.
The sub-grantees that we have elected are:
• City of Bloomington Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission
• Community Connection of Northeast Georgia
• Oshman Family Jewish Community Center
• Pennsylvania Family Coalition
• Service For Peace in Bridgeport
• Service For Peace in Cincinnati
• Service For Peace in Miami
• Service For Peace in Seattle
• Service For Peace Louisville
• Service For Peace Oakland
• United Way of the Greater Triangle of Morrisville
• United Way of Utah County
• Yavapai County VISTA Project

• Prescott, Arizona: The Yavapai County VISTA Project will implement educational, infrastructure and food security projects. www.mlkchallenge.org/Prescott
• Oakland, California: Service For Peace will improve the educational and public spaces of high schools in Oakland and Richmond. www.mlkchallenge.org/Oakland
• Palo Alto, California: The Oshman Family Jewish Community Center will complete service projects focused on hunger, housing and homelessness, education, literacy, helping at-risk youth, aging, illness, and the environment. www.mlkchallenge.org/Paloalto
• Bridgeport, Connecticut: Service For Peace will work with the City of Stamford Boys and Girls Club to provide workshops on citizen responsibility and peacemaking with children and adolescents. www.mlkchallenge.org/Bridgeport
• Miami, Florida: Service For Peace in partnership with the American Association of Retired Person (AARP) and the Miami Parks and Recreation Department will beautify recreational public spaces in various city parks. www.mlkchallenge.org/Miami
• Athens, Georgia: The Community Connection of Northeast Georgia will conduct service projects, which help educational, and community base organizations. www.mlkchallenge.org/Athens
• Bloomington, Indiana: The Indiana’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commission will work to improve the education for disadvantaged youth. www.mlkchallenge.org/Bloomington
• Louisville, Kentucky: Service For Peace will organize 15 community service projects that focus on health services for disadvantaged families, reducing hunger through the MLK Junior Food Drive and promoting peace and non-violence in schools and youth centers through the 40 Days of Peace campaign. www.mlkchallenge.org/Lousiville
• Morrisville, North Carolina: The United Way of the Greater Triangle will host a senior life project and will collect winter clothes for the homeless. www.mlkchallenge.org/Morrisville
• Cincinnati, Ohio: Service For Peace will lead projects focused on the improvement of youth centers, peace workshops with at risk youth and reducing hunger through the MLK Junior Food Drive. www.mlkchallenge.org/Cincinnati
